MediBridge App

This is a mobile app and website dedicated to assisting individuals with no income in accessing essential medical services completely free of charge.

 

Designed with the aim of bridging the gap in healthcare accessibility, This provides a user-friendly platform that connects users with a network of healthcare providers and organizations willing to offer their services without financial constraints.

My Process

Designing a user-centric app begins with understanding its purpose, audience, and goals. I conduct user research to shape personas, map user flows, and define the information architecture before creating wireframes and interactive prototypes.

 

Usability testing helps me refine the design, while high-fidelity visuals bring it to life with responsiveness in mind. I collaborate with developers for smooth implementation and continuously evaluate post-launch feedback to ensure the app exceeds user expectations.

Personas

Robert Johnson

 

Robert has recently been diagnosed with hypertension and arthritis, which have limited his physical abilities and job prospects. Without health insurance or income, he’s been struggling to access the necessary medical care and medications to manage these conditions.

User Research

I conducted user interviews and developed an empathy map to deeply understand the needs and behaviors of the individuals I’m designing for.

 

Through research, I identified a primary user group as individuals with little or no income who are actively seeking access to medical care. These insights provided valuable context for addressing their challenges and tailoring solutions to meet their specific needs effectively.

Paper Wire Frames

Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points.

For the home screen I prioritied a quick and easy portal to access medical services

As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research. 

The design was intentionally kept simple to provide additional assistance to individuals who may not be highly proficient with technology.

Usability Study

I conducted two rounds of usability studies to refine the design. The first study guided improvements from wireframes to mockups, while the second, using a high-fidelity prototype, highlighted areas needing refinement.

In Round 1, users wanted more prominent confirmation messages for scheduling, options for prescription refill locations, and more visuals over text. In Round 2, users requested larger text, the ability to track prescriptions and locate pharmacies, and doctor details like image, name, and title.

Hifi-Mockups

The high-fidelity mockups for MediBridge focused on creating an accessible and user-friendly experience for individuals with low income seeking medical support.

 

The design included intuitive navigation to locate treatment centers, refill prescriptions, and chat with doctors. Features like medication tracking and appointment reminders were integrated for convenience. Usability studies informed refinements, ensuring clear text contrast, easy-to-use interfaces, and a supportive, streamlined experience for users managing their healthcare needs.

Hifi-Web-Prototype

​A web version of the app was developed to extend MediBridge’s reach. With the web version, there is no requirement to create a profile in order to access the main feature which is access to nearby medical assistance.

Accessibility Considerations

Prioritizing accessibility ensures inclusivity for users of all abilities. I enhanced usability by adding alt text for screen readers, enabling access for visually impaired users. I also used icons to simplify navigation and integrated voice commands and text-to-speech functionality to assist users who struggle with small text or touch screens. These features align with ethical design principles while expanding the app’s reach and usability.

Project Overview

The Goal:
Develop an app and website that provide easy access to information on free medical services, including a user-friendly search feature, a directory of providers, and geolocation assistance, ensuring individuals with limited or no income can quickly find the care they need.

My Responsibilities​:

Conducting interviews, paper and digital, Wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs

Next Steps

Continuously improving the app involves iterative usability studies to address pain points and identify new needs. Ongoing user research ensures the app evolves with innovative enhancements, prioritizing functionality and user satisfaction.

Takeaways

During the design process of the MediBridge App, I gained invaluable insights into the challenges faced by individuals with limited or no income when seeking medical assistance. Many of these individuals also had various disabilities, ranging from visual impairments to limited technological proficiency.

 

It was crucial for me to be mindful of these factors and ensure that both the app and web interface were crafted with the utmost user-friendliness in mind.
